Transport

Sometimes, it seems the whole city is in gridlock. But together, we can unravel this tangle, and create an understandable and effective framework for urban mobility. From pedestrian safety to junction improvements to direction-based routing of BMTC buses, there is much to be talked about. There are also important choices to be made about infrastructure, so that we make the best use of the available resources, before deciding on new spending in these tough economic times.

Introduce Bus from Kundanahlli colony to k.r.puram railway station, hebbal, yehlanka as there are no buses to these places from here.
In the light of the recent railway crossing mishaps , it is of PARAMOUNT importance that we build underpasses or over bridge as the case may on a war footing. The railway crossing on Jakkur Signal on the service road of the new expressway is a MUST !!.. with the huge residential area coming up in yelhanka New town this overbridge is sheer necessity.
As a responsible bangalore citizen, we should improve our behaviour while driving on road. Though we are highly educated, we behave like illiterate when comes to driving. I don't think we will loose significat time if we follow lane displine. For this, I would request goverment to set up different lanes such as 1 for two wheeler, one for auto, one for cars and one car pooling. And also, I would request goverment to take stringnent action against bus drivers who stops at just after traffic signals and juctions. And at that it should encourage the BMTC drivers to stop at only designated stops.
Good initiative by our CM and his team to start a programme of this kind. So what if we are having a recession? I guess its the best time to pull up our socks in areas where we lack so that we bounce back post the recession period. I understand that Bangalore is losing the fame of being a garden city and increasingly becoming famours for traffic jams, dusty road and dug roads etc. Some initiative which cud be done under the program could be. 1. Identify factors affecting bad transport system. 2. Study about other places or nations as to how transport issues are solved. 3. Find out ways and means of how to enforce rules and to make citizens follow the rules as the later is more challenging. 4. What incentives/fines to be passed/levied on citizens to promote adherence to rules. 5. Maintenance of the Rule Enforcement/Adherance Forever. 5. Lastly setting up another team to monitor the CM and his team's activities in achieveing the set goals.[ This team need not be another politician, Excuse plzzzz]
The project looks good on paper. One only hopes(and prays) that it is executed as professionally as it was planned and on time. If the plan is to have infrastructure on par with international standards, the plan must be consulted with renowned planners from around the world. I notice that ALL roads have loose sand on both sides. Plan should include to replacing that with grass.
The traffic in Bangalore road is worst.Everywhere the two and four wheeler rides faster to override the other from both left and right side.I have never seen this break of rules not taken into granted by any traffic police which everytime leads to accidents and mis-conduct in roads. I hereby request to the Govt. of Karnantaka to look into this matter and provide a better rule in road. Also 'fine' those culprits who override from left side in the road.
Some of the bus stops has to be relocated. Most of them are very close to before or after the traffic signal. Further, BMTC and pickup vans should be asked to stop only at the bus stops. For instance there is a bus stop on intermediate ring road(Old Airport Road to Koramangala). The bus shelter is about 100 meteres from the flyover down ramp. But all the buses and pickup vans will stop very close to the flyover thereby blocking the entire traffic. Most of the time the buses will not stop at BMTC shelter.
we need to look at building an efficient public transport system in bangalore. we need to have a target where in atleast 60% of the people use public transport. BMTC is doing a good job. However some sort of planning to have nodal transit points acorss the city such that people come there and take a transportation to the next node then proceed to their final destination. For eg: The BTS bus Depot bus station@ wilson garden can be the nodal point for people living in jayanagar, koramangala, jp nagar, BTM layout et all. Anyone who wants to travel to MG road/Subashnagar [majestic], shivajinagar et all can come to wilson garden and from there, take another bus or an auto. I know this is not easy, but with some sort of planning this could be achieved.
Please fix standards for speed breakers as they invariably damage under carriage of modern cars. Please dont stop signals for V.I.P's other than the Hon'ble Governor and the Hon'ble Chief Minister.
Sir, I appreciate the work done by BMTC to provide bus facilities to the crook and corner of bengaluru. But, there seems a problem that some of the buses don't reach their destination which are at the corner of a city, but instead they drive back at some point of the distance. And also a suggestion from myside, I have seen the Route No. 365 Vajra Service(Volvo) buses plying between K.B.S and Bannerughata National Park sometimes doesn't have any passengers and only the driver and the conductor are in the bus. Please take some precautionary steps to avoid such instances as the fuel charges spent on these buses (volvo) are high. Instead these buses can be used on Weekends and on Holidays when more people visit this place. Hope that I am not wrong.
Hi, I travel everyday from Indira Nagar to Whitefield and use Old Madras road as a transit. I dont blame the traffic as majority of the IT companoes are based out of this area but it really gets very enrgy consuming when it comes to just cross the KR Puram bridge. It takes atleast 20 to 3o minutes to cross this point and it is sad to see that there is hardly any traffic on the bridge which makes me question why on the earth this bridge has been constructed when all the traffic is choked on the sidelines. The only option now is to demolish the flyover and reconstruct a better one with more space in the sidelines. The amount of fuel and time that is wasted while crossing this junction will definitely make this venture a critical component in the wellfare of Banglore citizens. Cheers, Ram
@ citizens: drive responsibily. Its a moral obligation that we use the roads
1) Better Road Seperators: Most of the traffic jam occurs when the persons driving vehicles cross the road seperators and rush to overtake other vehicles. Best way to void this kind of Jam is to introduce better Road Seperators, so that the vehicle move in the same lane. 2)Strict Traffic Monitoring: Rules are made, but who follows the rules? Officers should take strict action against People crossing the rules. 3) Pollution: Most of the BMTC Buses, Private Buses, Lorries and Autos do create more pollution. Need to take initiatives for better tomorrow.
Where do i start? First and foremost, most of the roads in bangalore are not wide enough.because of this, no separate lanes can be chalked out- for buses, autos, 2 wheelers etc.so if a bmtc bus decides to park himself slightly onto the traffic path, thats it, theres a huge jam thats caused. i travel daily thru lingarajpuram flyover and right at the end of the flyover is a bus stop. so one has to wait till all the passengers alight and get in for the traffic to start moving.it moves another 100-200 meters and there is a signal. so one can imagine to get thru a half kilometer stretch the amount of time and fues that is wasted.im glad abide has come forward to improve bangalroe.each one of us must contribute.
I think the major cause for traffic problems in bengaluru, is irresponsible driving by people. People do not care to follow traffic rules for eg. two wheelers ride on footpath, pedestrians walk on road (even if the road has wide footpath) etc. If people start following traffic rules and drive responsibly I feel traffic jams can be reduced by a great extent. Issual of driving license must be made stringent, so that only those people who know to drive the vehicle properly and responsibly get DL.
I think the Govt. should study the topography of the area before putting up a bus shelter. Invariably the bus stops are at "T" junctions or at the junction of the cross roads. This is causing a major hinderance to traffic movement in most of the areas. In the area where i live there is a bus stop at the T junction, where the buses come from opposite the bus shelter and also from the left side of the shelter. This has been causing a lot of problems, especially for women and elder citizens, who have to run for quite a distance to catch the bus. in doing so they have hurt themselves by falling / tripping. This is very unscientific. I hope ADIBE will come forward and take the initiative to have the bus stop moved further down the road.
Great start.. hope implementation is as good. 1) Guiding principles doesnt mention the need to protect environment (trees). The enthusiasm displayed for cutting trees should be applied to clearing encroachments - how many used car dealers do you see on newly laid platforms in Jayanagar? 2) Guiding principles must emphasise on scientifically proven methods from design till implementation. We still cannot get the width of roads right - widen where you can, as against where required seems to be the motto - creating artifical bottlenecks. 2.1) Guiding principles should emphasise the importance of simple solutions even if they are interim, before complex long term solutions. Look at elevated toll road towards electronic city. Even while the road is under construction the ride is better because key junctions have been widened by land acquisition etc. 3) Public transport improvements requires that taxis, autos should ply where one wants - not based on auto drivers' personal preferences. 4) Need to use syncronised signals, enforcement of slow speeds where required. What is the point driving at 60km/h for some distance only to hit a bottleneck and wait - wastage of fuel, pollution. Look at the silk board junction for e.g. 5) Dont arbitrarily put road dividers - inconveniencing pedestrians, and vehicles - travel more distance to take a U turn? Look at bannerghatta road between dairy circle and jayadeva flyover. 6) Also include noise reduction. 7) If public transport should be encouraged, private transport needs to be discouraged. Look at commercial street, brigade - autos not allowed !! Why not ban cars? 8) Can we start with enforcement of red signals? May do a lot of good.
A few simple steps to start with will go a long way to improve the chaotic situation on Bengaluru roads. These are : 1. Police to educate the 2/3/4 wheeler drivers about existing rules & punishment for violating these. 2. Fines to be increased , made known to public through posters & banners and implemented from a certain date. 3. Vehicles coming on the wrong side of the road just to save a few metres must be punished instantly. 4. It is observed that people take a sharp right turn on to the left side obstructing those who are correctly on their side of the road. 5. Vehicles enter "NO ENTRY" zones right in the nose of traffic police. But we observe that the traffic police is totally inactive on these gross violations which take place on a regular basis. If these are checked traffic will become more civilised and orderly. It is fear of law & severe fines which will act as a deterrent, nothing else. Narasimhan P
This looks to be a good initiative, but, hope to see the spirit continues even when it gets implemented ! It looks like, most of them have raised all the major concerns in this area, following would be my suggestion to fix these:- 1. Built good public-private traffic monitoring systems. This will provide wide network or people to volunteer and report the traffic law breakers 2. Implement 8 hour shift for traffic police personnel. So that, three shifts would help. 3. Increase pay for traffic police, and give them more powers to action, immediately. 4. Bar licenses after three offences, may be for next three years 5. Create underpasses at both the ends of all major roads, so that, pedestrians can cross 6. Create sky-bridges at the middle of all the major roads, again for pedestrians.
I thank the Bengaluru police for their incredible job. I am a staunch admirer of their work. They slog day and night out to keep the traffic smooth and flowing in all the pollution, dust and heat while we calmly sit in AC offices and work. The least we could do for them as commuters is to behave decently during our few hours commuting to work. Please avoid horns, avoid drunken driving and avoid breaking any rules. We cannot expect already overstressed cops to act patiently after we get caught. Dear cops, as I thank you for services, I travel daily from J.P.Nagar to Koramangala and back on my 2 wheeler. I have to say, this busy stretch is kept smooth, due to your hard work. I take all care to keep my RC book, license, emission test certificate and tax paid receipts up to date. I observe that traffic cops only check 2 wheelers for emission test certificates. But the auto-rickshaws blandly ignore all emission norms. They mix highly polluting additive to their fuels. The smoke they emit is way too much for any vehicle. Though some rickshaws have switched to gas which is non-polluting, the others are escaping without it. I sincerely hope the cops, RTO and government crack down on these miscreants who have no concern for the environment and laws. As a commuter I feel that they are the sole reason for unnecessary traffic pollution in Bangalore.
Hon.Chief Minister & his team, I am delighted to see Plan Bengaluru 2020 going on web & requesting for feed back & suggestions.I observe some or most of above comments are of complaint nature which are nothing new & may find thousands of them.As a common man who donot understand high fundas & complexity of planning report,I am trying to put my thinking, how I visualise "ROAD" in my perspective. Here are they. ROADS : 1.All Bus Routes to be Min 100ft wide. Desirable-Min 120 ft.Wherever impossible, make the route one way with NO Parking on both sides.(this has lot of inbuilt parameters) 2. 5ft clean(no trees,no poles etc),Levelled,& barricated footpath on both sides of road. 3.Road centre divider of min 30 inch high with grill work of 12 inch above this.So pedestrians donot cross over.Reduces accidents & the traffic moves faster & safer.Centre box to be used for street lighting cables & Displays, for Revenue if any) 4.The distance between two signals to be not less than 2kms(min). 5.All cross roads joining main roads MUST be at signal points only. 6.No road humps. 7.Underpass or Skywalker with escalaters for pedestrians.whichever is cost effective & feasible. 8.Fly overs are MUST. Ex.From Corp circle to University gate on Mysore Road. 9.Free left turns at all signal points. 10.Powerfull street lights in the road divider blocks. This will avoid Vehicle using Head lights.Hence safe driving in night. 11.No parking permitted on these roads. 12.No worship place. 13.No venders permitted. 14.No truck/goods veh permitted from 7am to 11am & 5pm to 9pm. 15.Tree plantation 20ft away from edge of road on both sides. ROAD PROJECT EXECUTION : 1.Time limit 1 week/km/contractor.(each contractor willnot have more than 25 Kms road under him/her) 2.Cost-No escalation permitted. 3.Quality:To be approved by team of external agency. My Respects to CM & Regards to TEAM ABIDE
ABIDE is wonderful initiative. Hope this will bring in magical transformation to our city. While BMTC is making rapid improvements to augment the road traffic and the Metro is still chugging slowly, i want to propose another alternative - using the existing railway lines (as in Hyderabad) to run local services with intermdiate pick-up points between: (1) Kengeri to Whitefield via BLR City, Cantonment, East, Byappanahalli, KR Puram (2) City to Yeshwantpur / Peenya (3)Peenya / Yeshwantpur to Whitefield via Banaswadi, Byappanahalli, KR Puram (4) Cantonment to Yelahanka via Byappanahalli, Channasandra (5) Whitefield to Yelahanka via KR Puram, Channasandra (6) Yeshwantpur to Yelahanka. BMTC may provide local services within these zones to ferry people. I believe if all / some routes mentioned above are implemented, people will be motivated to use public transportation rather than their own vehicles. Effectively this will reduce number of personal vehicles on road, reduce traffic congestion, reduce pollution, and enable faster movement of people in a secure manner. Another implementation alternative is to deploy the services 3 times with half hour intervals each during the morning and evening peak hours. I'm sure the industries can support by plying their own vehicles towards sourcing their employees from the nearest stations. This will help save their transportation costs as well.

Its all bout setting priorities. Govt can easily do the work if there is will. There are lots of new initiatives being taken in terms of road widening, metro work, traffic free junctions and all but this is not sufficient, below are a few suggestions; Ring Roads and Arterial Roads: As long as right turn is allowed on these road they will never succeed. We can have a 10 lane expressway but a right turn on it will defeat the purpose. Its like having a BIG 10inch steel door to a bank and keeping the key to the door on the handle! Service Road: The service roads has to extend under an underpass and railway road over bridge. This way the two, three wheeler traffic can be diverted on it. Today ORR is a classic example of this oversight which again is not good. Flyover: A flyover can never be successful unless its in three levels. See the Marathalli and silk board junction are in such a mess because of bad planning. At the same time the Jayadeva hospital and dairy circle flyover do the job decently. Bus Stops: There is not a single bus which stops at the designated bus stops. Parallel parking is like a birth right and even a wide ORR falls prey to this carelessness. Most of the time bus drivers stops away from the bus stop, paralle to each other. ORR was decently designed to have bus stops in such a way that when a bus stops traffic should not get affected but bad drivers just make it a hell here. The Old Madras road stop near the flyover near benegahalli lake is a great example. The buses (city bus, other govt bus and private bus) stop everwhere apart from the designated bus stop.
Big-10 plan sounds great ! Would like to bring to your notice what is happening at the Marthahalli junction {Where Airport Rd meets ORR}, at this junction both in mornings and evenings we have lot of people trying to change the bus from one route to the other. This clearly calls for a 'Bus Stand' where people can assemble and change their buses. But what is happening is the buses gets the people on the road and we see lot of people running and crossing road from one side to the other and crowd-tendency creeps in, where even if we get a green, the pedestrians don't give way and are crossing the roads and halting the traffic. At the junctions, we need a Bus Stand to ease the rest of traffic.
Some comments: - No public / political rallies to be allowed in the city on weekdays. - No politicians to be allowed to travel with their red beacons flashing at the expense of citizens - No Bus stops at road intersections or at the entrance to a fly-over - Facility for "switching" roads to one-way to accomodate peak traffic (for example this has been done in Park Street Calcutta where the traffic goes one direction upto 2Pm and the opposite direction post 2PM) - Regulate strictly registration of new vehicles: for example 1 motor car per family; cars greater than 10 years to go off the roads; - Allow even numbered cars on even dates and odd numbered cars on odd dates (just like we do for parking in some areas) - Fine jay-walking citizens : they must be forced to cross only at traffic lights or zebra crossings - Tax relief if a citizen surrenders his/her car and does not register another car in the same year either in his name or any family member's name
Everyone cribs that Metro takes long time to be implimented etc etc. I just have a very simple suggestion Use BMTC as our metro network. Introduce about 3-4 or max 5 routes in BMTC and run equal no of buses on those routes......name them as 1,2,3,4,5...thats all.....No need for 200c or 200k or "xyz". On these long routes, cover entire bangalore... it just needs a bit of time investment to plan it properly. abolish all small routes......these will ensure that all buses run properly and better connectivity to entire bangalore....... Apart from these only other routes can be - 1-Airport Service 2-railway station service 3-All Sight seeing round route Bus Ex: Start from shantinagar depot - lalbaug - MG Road - vidhana Soudha - Cubbon park - Kemp Fort - marath halli - Kormangala - Jayanagar - end at shantinagar So in all bangalore has only 8/10 bus routes............. Simple solution......... One major thing needed in bangalore is dedicated bus lanes on all streets that bus runs on........BUS has to be give preference by vehicles using bus lanes.......and buses should not be allowed to come out of bus lanes and no parking allowed in bus lanes........ it is possible to do it in bangalore.....
If any of these suggestions are actually implemented, it will prove very beneficial to commuters. Can we have buses plying more frequently from Marathhalli to Banashankari/ beyond please! Many of the 500 series buses only go upto the Silk Board Junction. Also more 500K buses need to be introduced - there is only one every hour now and that does not help the huge IT crowd of commuters returning from White field - especially during peak hours.
Hi..Glad to hear that such a proposal in coming up. I would suggest that the cycle/two wheeler lane be introduced on all main roads (atleast) as this will definately encourage people using four wheelers to commute using bikes and it also is more humane to accomodate two wheelers compared to four wheelers with A/C and single occupancy. It is also very important that the bus stops are a bit away (50 - 100mts) away from main junctions as the buses are usually parked in the middle of the road near main junctions for passengers to board/alight by the drivers thus clogging the smooth movement of traffic...LANE DISIPLINE SHOULD BE STRIGHTLY FOLLOWED AND A NOMINAL FINE OF RS.10 SHOULD BE LEVIED IN CASE OF NON-ADHERENCE.Lane Decipline will solve the problem of traffic congession in a big manner.Rules are meant to be followed, if not followed, action should be taken against those who do not follow... A COUNTRY WILL AUTOMATICALLY PROSPER IF THE LAW & ORDER IS IN PLACE... JAIN HIND JAI KARNATAKA!
Thanks for taking the feedback from the public. I feel that Mass transport systems are the best bet. With the new airport coming up, land should be now easily available. Why don't we think of introducing 'RAILWAY SERVICE' from the city to the new airport. This will help to reduce the congestion and number of accidents. This will improve the economy and will enable people to move out of the city and stay elsewhere. Constructing flyovers and more roads are never the permanent solution. Vehicles will keep on increasing and we will keep on looking for more land to construct roads. With land now cheaply available near the new airport, a railway service should be the priority. Almost every big city has its internal railway service connecting to its major services.
1. No pollution control or checks effectively done. Its almost like breathing in a gas chamber. 2. Speed breakers have been put by almost like anyone. So many of them that it make travel very miserable and slow. 3. Outer ring road is the solo connectivity between 2 parts of the city. And above that it has so many crossings. That is not how ring roads work. Some local issues: * No buses on Ring Road from JP Nagar. Need to walk atleast 25 minutes if we want to catch a bus. * All the buses goto Majestic from JP Nagar. People who goto work near marathalli where huge number of company are located, have no conveyance. Even nearby jayanagar has 1 volvo bus in one hour, which is very insufficient considering number of people. * Silk Board junction takes more than 30 min to cross. Bellandur signal becoming silk board slowly slowly.

Pl. introduce good volvo buses from Malleswaram to Marathhalli. Lot of executive who are using two wheeler & four wheeler will start using buses. This will help to reduce city traffic, save fuel & helps the environment.
I second Geetha on the Bus service from Kundalahalli gate to Old madras road via Kundalahalli Layout, Graphite India, Shell petrol pump, Gopalan school and join Old madras road near Brigade Metropolis.
ABIDE needs to realize the utilization of already exisiting railway infrastructure. The present Rail network can be effectively used to cater to large public. Namely, 1. Re-introduce Kengeri-Bangalore-Whitefield push pull train. (This was introduced in early 90s, but were no takers, slowly service was removed). Now this train twice in the morning and twice in evening could reduce huge traffic. This train with HOHO service will be much more effective. This will be helpful for all users of ITPL and Whitefield areas. 2. Plan to have a diversion in the existing Bangalore-Hosur rail link to Electronic city 3. Similarly, existing Bangalore-Chikaballapur rail link can have a diversion near chikkajal to international airport. To summarize, my first suggestion does not involve any cost of building infrastructure. While second and third is extension of the already existing infrastructure. When all these scheme are in operation hundreds of buses / thousands of cars can be off the road.
People can think of using public transport when they have diret buses or atleast proper connectin buses. We people from J. P. Nagar 7th Phase (Gaurav Nagar / RBI Layout / puttenalli / Jambusavari Dinne etc.) to reach Koramangala 1st block have to catch 3 buses (1 bus to reach Jayanagar 5 block, 1 2nd from Jayanagar to St. john's hospital or Koramangala water tank stop & 3rd one from ST. Johns stop to Koramangala 1st block. Do the people realised that one has to walk almost 0.75 Km to reach catch the 3rd bus after getting down from the 2nd bus, thoughboth are called Koramangala Watertank stop. Have anyone realised the time required for this journey both in morning and evening. Can any one arraneg to run diorect buses between Kottanur to Koramangala atleast during peak hours. People like R.K Mishra can make comments, to know the real problem, one has to travel in public transport atleast for 1 or 2 weeks.
Went through most of the points above. Even i have similar opinions. But just to put over some views. One major cause of congestion is lack of culture in driving.most of the bus stops are just after or before traffic signals. so even though there is a green signam the bus in front stops.all vehicles start honking and there is a real mess. in some roads there is enough width fr buses to stop aside the main road. eg: sony world signal toward domlur, murugeshpalaya bus stp near jesus kripa complex. But buses just stop on the way they go.They are not ready to move a little bit to the left side before they stop. 2.Buses overtaking one another.in a highway or a clear road we can understand this.but in a already crowded road when all vehicles are moving one of the two buses in the same bus stop just steer to the right.most of the cases a car or a bike will be in the right side and the bus cannot go. the bus also doesnt go nor does it allow other vehicles behind to go. a bus/pickup vehicles that goes in the right lane shifts to the left and makes a sudden halt. 3. Lane discipline. lane discipline is not at all followed. if a car needs to take a right turn it doesmnt stay on the right lane behind the other vehicles already waiting for the right turn they just overtake all these and make a block in front of the turn. other vehicles which needs to go straigh or left cannot go even if there is signal.eg: in front of manipal hospital, wind tunnel road. The U turn on the IRR between domlur flyover and koramangala/sony world signal. 5. lack of timing sync in between signals. the signal on a stretch needs to be synchronised so that if we cross one signal in green we should not just go n hit the signal which is red and wait for the signal to turn green second time before we could proceed. 6. pedestrian sky walk/underpass in madiwala in front of total is very necessary.
The main issue with Bangalore bus system is that its mainly a star topology, with the nodes being at Shivajinagar, Majestic and Market. This means that even two areas that are relatively nearby do not have any buses connecting them. For example to go from Old Madras Road to (Old) Airport Road, there is no bus at all. We need to make the bus system decentralized with many smaller terminuses and buses plying between them providing local connectivity as well. There could be min-buses taking circular routes. For connecting old madras road and airport road, buses can ply on Suranjan Das Road. This will also connect Bagmane Tech Park with old madras road and airport road.

Hon.Chief Minister & your team members. we are very happy that you people are doing good work. 1.when we have rules and regulation we should follow them right but than why the traffic police men won't follow that, they will catch every body who have license n does not have license and they stop where ever they want is it right? ............. 2. If any body is coming means VIPs or Minister, why they will stop signal, they only have important work than what we are doing? ............. fine they have important work more than our work ok they should understand others also so that they should stop near by means if they are coming in majestic and going to market, than policemen will stop signal in corporation only is it right? ........... 3.Please do something in Mysore road morning it will be always traffic jam from Bapujinagar to Mysore road flyover please and please do something of this traffic.
Hi, Please add a new route from Hosur road near to Electronic Phase-2 to Bannerughatta Road thro' NICE road or something instead of changing to 2 buses, one from Electronic city to Dairy Circle, then to Bileka halli. It would be good if we make vertical travel segments across Bangalore instead of Linear system. That would save lot of time because we dont need to come to the center of city and go far again.
Good Initiative!! But I am not impressed yet. However good the public transport is, it cannot solve the problem of traffic congestion that exists on the roads today. The car and bike owners will never let go their freedom unless they absolutely have to. If the bus takes an hour to reach from point A to point B, the bike owners can do it in 25 mins. Buses also add pressure on the roads and hence the congestion. If anything has to be done, it has to be instilling "Traffic sense" in the current set of vehicle owners. As the strength of chain is known by its weakest link, the speed of the road is known by its slowest vehicle. If every vehicle even moved at an average speed of 40kmph, it shouldn't take more than an hour to reach from anywhere to anywhere in Bangalore (even with the signals) but that isn't true. The prime reason for that is chaos on the road and till that improves, no matter how many buses you introduce, the speed of the road will always remain the same.
A good initiative on your part, but I am sorry to say that you will hit a brick wall before you start. With the kind of attitude people have, the absolute disregard for traffic rules, lack of basic ethics and disrespect for the traffic police, I fear that all your efforts will be in vain. You widen the roads, people start parking indiscriminately. BTS bus drivers apply the rule: 'MIGHT IS RIGHT", stop anywhere, anytime, anyway. The people have to be taught basic discipline first. Traffic will automatically improve if heavy penalties are implemented for violating the rules. What is a penalty of Rs. 200/ for the owner of an 8 lakh car? Why do we always point fingers at our traffic police as corrupt officials? Has anybody given a thought to their salaries and their working conditions? I would suggest that the entire traffic police force be sent off on a week's paid leave and the signal lights should be switched off. Let the city fall into chaos, only then would people realise their importance. Has anybody asked themselves: Why do these cops take bribes?? Look at the salaries they get. Implement an incentive scheme for them. They should be given some percentage of the penalties collected. Please do something about the penalties. For example: You jumped a red light - penalty should be 5% of the cost of the vehicle you are driving + 24 hrs in jail. This means that when you apply for a passport, your name crops up as a person who committed a felony. This will lead to problems in getting a passport. Fear has to be instilled. Another reason is the pedestrians - cross wherever they want, whenever they want. Implement the rule as follows: if a pedestrian is hit by a vehicle at a non-crossing area, the victim (pedestrian)pays for all damages, hospitalisation, etc. And no case will be registered against the vehicle owner.
This isn continuation of my earlier comment: The main reason for all the traffic problems in Bangalore is the "I CARE TO HOOTS ATTITUDE. WHAT CAN YOU DO?? In Bangalore the rule is: If there is no traffic cop present - NO RULES ARE APPLICABLE. Recently I was waiting at a red light. I had somebody come up to me and ask me to go ahead. So I pointed at the red light and told him to wait. In response to that I was asked whether I was planning to become a good citizen?? And mind you, this was not a cab or auto driver, but a well dressed gentleman driving a Skoda. Please remove bus stops from junctions and prevent people from standing close to turnings. Make the dividers so unfriendly that even pedestrians cannot jump over it. Please visit Chennai to see the road dividers there. Avoid frequent breaks in the centre medians. Widen the roads at particular points to facilitate U-turns. Please make the footpaths Pedestrian friendly and not two wheeler friendly. Impose very heavy fines for two wheelers going onto the pavements. To put it in a nutshell - FEAR HAS TO BE INSTILLED IN THE MIND OF PEOPLE. How does traffic move so well in Singapore, Shanghai, Moscow??? Yes broad roads, and apart from that basic driving ethics and a fear of the traffic police. Please do something about the process of issuing driving license. It all starts from there. CORRUPTION!! Today without knowing the A,B C of driving, you can get a license if you pay the required amount. How do you judge a driver by taking the driving test in an open football field. Has anybody bothered to test the driving skills of the people who run these Driving schools?? And last but not the least - can somebody put in some sense into the people so that they keep the right hand lane free and not force people to overtake from the left hand side. We are in India and not in the U.S. I am sorry to say that in Bangalore, people have no respect and do not fear the authorities. That's the harsh truth. I wish you all the best.
Now that the elevated highway is nearing completion in Hosur Road, let's earmark exclusive lanes for all government buses (including other state government buses). Also let's have dedicated bus stops for outstation buses and private buses. This would result in two bus stops--one for BMTC and another for the private suburban buses (to places like Attibele and Anekal). This will help in quicker transit for buses and they don't have to put up with HCVs and MCVs.
BMTC's goal of reducing traffic congestion would only be realized if they implement the reduced fares and fare cuts across all routes. They have failed to do so till date. Take route 335 (KBS to ITPL) for instance. The fare cut that came in effect from Feb 5th wasn't enforced on route 335 Volvos. So with reduced petrol prices, people like me find it cheaper to travel by our 2-wheelers than BMTC buses. This habit of fleecing the IT employees should be discontinued and discouraged.
First of all Kudoosss to this spectacular initiative. TRAFFIC.... the next word which comes to anyones mind when thinking of Bangalore city.. A night mare for many office goers.. and for me too.. Here is one plan which came to my mind.. I dont want to elaborate much on this but if people are intersted in such a setup we can have a discussion on this. Office Goers especially those who commute in their personal vechicles form a major chunk of bangalore city traffic. The pattern of this traffic is same acrros all weekdays and more than 90 percent of office goers have the same repeated schedule. As IT forms the majority of employees in bangalore, and most of the IT companies are located in kind of IT parks which hold more than lakhs of people working, identifying the traffic is easy because the destination of most of the traffic is almost the same. For reducing this traffic we should have a kind of polling on each such big IT parks and identify the sources from where the people start their commute may be take the case of Bagmane IT park in CV RAMAN NAGAR, say it has around ten thousand people working in different companies, out of which some 500 people come from Koramangala and near to Koramangala, some 500 from Marathahalli, ITPL, Kundanahalli another 500 from MG Road, Sivaji Nagar, ... etc.. so we need to identify those points and make source stations with good parking facilities. Volvo buses / Local buses should be scheduled from those source stations to the selected destinations. Tickets should be passes which a commutter has to reserve in advance for a month. These buses can reduce the traffic in the main roads and junctions and people can safely park their vechicles in the nearest source station near the place they live. This will be an advanced form of car pooling and can considerably reduce traffic if implemented properly.
Guidelines on performing roadwork needs to be published and enforced. This is based on teh personal experiences by travelling in Hosur road fro several years. There has to be guidelines published and enforced and informing, warning road users on the roadwork and any obstructions or diversions in the roads. The contractor should be made accountable for this and any damage arising out of non conformance should be fined for. E.g: 1. many a times, the sand dunes are just kept on the extreme right lane of the road - partly in the road and partly in teh median. There are no warnings / sign boards on this. Sometimes a barricade may be kept but few feets away from sanddune - which you can't see unless you are about to hit it. 2. Stones / Objects kept near the median / road side. There has to be comprehensive guidelines issued on doing work on teh roads considering the safety of commuters, pedenstrians and workers in mind.
Few points, which I think would help 1. Parking(illegal) on almost all roads. If we can have a setup to monitor this and levy fines, this would come down. Have proper parking spots so that people don't park on the road. 2. Have a system to move vehicles which have broken down on the road, fast. Now it is taking time. 3. Have vehicle actuated signals, instead of signals which work with timers. 4. Educate bus drivers on the importance of them driving on the side of the road, rather than the middle. 5. Have a provision to give end to end tickets. For example if a person is traveling from Koramangala to Viajayanagar, he can take one ticket from the first bus he enters. It is difficult to get a direct bus in Bangalore. People end up spending more money; conductors spend more money with issuing tickets now. 6. Move bus stops away from signals(at least 250 metres away). 7. I see lot of buses going to Majestic from my place, many of them half full or near empty. We need to have a system to monitor the routes where there is more need for buses and adjust accordingly. 8. There are only 4-5 buses from my place to Shivajinagar. However most of the time, I see them going together!! not helping anybody's cause. A better monitoring system at the start and end points would help improve this. 9. Consider and act on the inputs you get from people like me, the caring citizens of Bangalore :-) Best wishes for this initiative to succeed in creating a better Bangalore
I will point of one issue that I am facing in Girinagar area. The 50ft road which goes towards Hanumath Nagar is always busy and it does not have any parallel road. Right now if the parking on the road is blocked, many things will come under control. Also the auto drivers and bikers who don't follow the rules, lanes should be strictly penalized...
I don't know from where do I start, but I would like to highlight few points. 1. Does everyone know that what is main root cause of traffic, its nothing other then bad roads? If there would be smooth roads without unnecessary speed breakers (especially in the junction where there is no crossing, you can find a lot of then especially in outer ring road) then definitely you can control the traffic. 2. Unnecessary digging all over in Bangalore. It’s really impressive that Govt plan something and then try to implement it ASAP but after 10-15 days, the reproductively reduces to negative. Example is JP Nagar Underpass. 3. There is lack of smartness in traffic police. They give equal time to all the vehicles coming from different small lanes which are joining to the outer ring road then giving more time to outer ring road. Don't they realize that the main road has more vehicles? 4. Why can’t traffic police challan (penalty) the local buses (all), taxi drivers, auto drivers which don't obey any traffic signal. I hope whatever everyone is writing will actually get implemented.
Pedestrians are the most amongst the accident victims. Its impossible to cross any major roads, and add to it, the drivers dont care for traffic rules and signals. Will the governament take stringent measures to curb accidents and provide safety for pedestrians ? Traffic is always on from any one direction in any signal. How do pedestrians cross ? New airport road pedestrians deaths are more than 60 and still no great enforcement of safety for them. Just collecting fines from rash drivers is not enough.
Great initiative, The HOHO is a good idea. I like to suggest an extention of this to the BIG 10 roads. In the peak hours, The BTS buses are Jam packed. We can Plan for Special Peak hour buses, which doNOT have seating OR Have seating only on one side like in a Metro rail. This facilitates High passanger traffic. Another Key is the Fequency should be high during these peak hours. The buses need NOT go to the city center, just stick to the Big 10 routes. For example, People coming back from workplaces on Hosur road, will normally get off at Silk board junction, Madivala, Forum mall or Adugodi. If this 10 kms has a kind of HOHO, high frequency, high passenger model during peak hours, It could solve a lot of trouble till we get a Metro link in place.

I've seen speed breakers on the side road before they join the main road in other countries. But, here, in Bangalore, the speed breaker is on the main road and the side road traffic joins the main road without the need of looking both sides. The drivers needs to be trained and make them understand, the main road traffic is more important. The traffic police needs to be very very strict, whether it's BMTC driver or a private driver. Otherwise, there is no escape for any of the traffic problem. Needs more camera in all the junctions and whoever cross the red signal needs to be penialized. In Chennai, even in the mid night, not even auto rickshaw drivers cross the red signal. We need that culture here.
I travel from Hoodi to Diary Circle every day. Is there any proper bus service which I can make use of? I don't mind travelling in two buses also. But, there is no proper route which I can consider.
I would like to mention few points 1.ORR should be made signal free only after each ORR has service road associated with it 2.Fly over on ORR if the vehicle is suppose to cross it to other side 3.Service road should not be used by HEAVY/ COMMERCIAL Vehicles 4.Bus Stops should be made bit behind if they are on main Road 5.Bus Stop should not be on the junction of any roads 6.Limited speed boards on Roads (ORR Specially) when there is a chance of heavy congestion at the JUNCTION 7.No commuters should cross ORR from anywhere. Construction of over bridge to cross needed 8.Instant action required by traffic for Any Vehicles stuck in the middle of ORR/ roads At last and least each person using roads should be very responsible citizen and strictly follow the traffic rules.
Traffic congestion can not be solved by construction of Fly over and underpass at one junction. The traffic flow should be monitored for the whole route rather than concentrating on a single junction. When we build a fly over in one junction the other connecting junctions are jam packed. We should take a full route for example from rajajinagar to Jayanagar and identify all the junctions where the traffic flow is dense. All the roads in bangalore should be made usable. The alternate routes should be identified and the traffic to be diverted to the escape routes. The Escape routes to be made familiar to all the road users, targeted mainly to the two wheel riders.
Another issue in girinagar area and also about the same 50ft road mentioned earlier is that, there is a small strech of about 100 meters from girinagar 10 bustop to the road that comes from myore road. This road needs to be tarred. People around this area tell that there is some dispute about the land and so it is never tarred. But as it is being used, it should be tarred.
- Strictly prohibit parking on the roads by providing mandatory parking lots in every lane and road. - Cleanup and develop the service roads and do not allow the petty shops on service roads. - Strictly implenet lane discipline and take stringent actions to deter the others, on those who cross the road dividing white and yellow lines. - Provid mini (10 passengers or so) transport systems to cover every nuke and corner to the main stops and shopping centers. - Strictly make the buses to follow the timings. On the otherday, I had to sit in a volvo in the banneraghatta park for more than 40 minutes. They kept on waiting to fill the bus though they are about 10 more volvo buses waiting in the stand. Next time, I will not depend on the bus. For eg., How can I depend on a volvo to airport, if they don't comply the timings. Same thing to offices. - Need effective and highly professional private call centers and police call centers to address the issues on the road or the issues caused by transport operator, conductors, drivers ad other road users. - Effective towing opeartions - no vehicle should be allowed to strand/obstruct the traffic for more than 5 minutes.
There need to be some awareness program to BMTC drivers on the following: 1. BMTC buses stop in the middle of the roads and block traffic. 2. The RED lamps in the rear rarely work, thereby giving no clue to the following traffic, when they are stopping. All the BMTC buses need to be "Audited" for the proper functioning of Rear RED (Brake-light) lights in the Depots. 3. I have several times noticed that BMTC buses try to overtake at the Bus stops. In most cases, due to lack of enough space, the second bus will be blocking the traffic, till the first one moves ahead. Overtaking Bus drivers need to be given warning for first 3 occurrences and later can be punished with 0.5 days of leave, if it repeats. 4. With ladies entering every field in modern India, as much as possible, let Lady drivers be trained and introduced in BMTC, on a trial basis. Ruthlessness and rash driving of BMTC may reduce drastically. 5. Regular Yoga / Meditation programs and rotation of BMTC drivers from sub-urban areas also shall help in improving the discipline. As regards to general public, the fines for 1) Talking in mobile while driving CAR/2W should be increased at least 5 times of current amount. 2) Fines to be introduced for driving from Left. 3) Collecting Fines for traffic violations in every nook n corner to be discontinued. Fines to be collected only in spl. counters, in the area where the violation was captured. Public's hard ship to pay the fines should be a warning to avoid such violations in future. It is very evident that the traffic police is less in numbers. Coordination with Colleges to use NSS / NCC cadets to manage traffic should be tried out. Train them, guide them initially and let them manage small (relatively less traffic) junctions. During festivals (Long weekends) it has become a regular scene in / around Majestic for traffic jams. Volunteers (college students) to be trained and tried for managing the traffic in these days.
we need to be responsible ourselves rather than blaming others for this. Our ministers and MP who charting out these policies need to scrutinize themselves because these people just for the sake of votes come up with their laws and relaxations. The best example is the bannerghatta road from the dairy circle to the jaydeva flyover, one can see the entire footpath captured by lorries and autos. How can one miss such a thing.Every day when i go on that way i see lot of people using the actual road instead of the footpath to commute. This has to change first, not only here but across all of bengalaru.some of the measures that we can take are 1.Clearing off the footpaths for pedstrainins 2.Promoting car pooling culture 3 Lane Driving if possible 4.Heavy fines for offenders including bmtc drivers (They think the are the kings of the roads) 5 Bangalore being an Hi-Tech city lacks the proper infrastructure to nab the people who have the history of traffic voilations. We are giving IT solutions to the world, but we fail to use one for us 6.Installation of Cameras and cctv at crossings and congested areas to monitor the list can go on and will never end,At last i will like to say atleast we should support the govt and every other agency who comes up with such initiatives.
Please make necessary public transport facilities for people travelling after 11 P.M. Now BMTC operates onlt till 11(for most of areas) and after that people bemoan for bus which is denegration to "Brand Bengaluru". Also passengers who reach the city from outside will have nightmares to reach theirdens specially if it is in outskirts.
Firstly APPRECIATE the effort of introducing this website. A few suggestions 1. Please intorduce direct buses [MINI BUS] to all possible office locations like ITPL,ELECTRONIC CITY PEENYA etc from all possible areas like jayanagar to ITPL next malleswaram to ITPL.This way the crowd at Majestic bus stop will reduce. 2.Introduce direct buses from Majestic bus stand (MBS) to all locations direct. Ex:Majestci to yelahanka direct without any stoppages in between.Travel time will reduce, number of buses running parellely on the same road at the same time to the same location reduces drastically.! 3.Introduce other shuttle buses between Majestic and Yelahanka for other people who want to get into the bus at different locations like hebbal. 4.Please widen the beniganahalli bridge it will help ease a lot of traffic 5.Introduce as many traffic signal free roads. 6.Please tar all possible roads and specially junctions as ppl try to change gears and speed reduces the traffic flow. 7.Please introduce proper bus stops for all BTS buses & other pvt buses and appoint inspectors to make sure these spots are violated. 8.Educate all people who go to recieve their licenses about road traffic discipline and teach them how to behave in public. Please educate all BTS drivers and others how precious a life is.Take them to a hospital and show them how much an accident victim suffers.
Before we think of costier solutions like underpass or flyover, we should be re-structuring the traffic flows. One-way and two-ways should be given a re-thought. For example, the part of Sarjapur road connecting Krupanidhi college to Koramangala checkpost has been made a two-way (by introducing a new signal at Krupanidhi college), reducing the traffic from Silk board to Koramangala checkpost!
BMTC has been good in increasing its fleet of buses and ensuring that every individual is being helped out. While doing so BMTC is also equally responsible in ensuring the smooth flow of traffic, which it is not emphasizing much on. There are many of the BUS Stops which are causing major bottlenecks and traffic congestions. Some of these stops are exactly at the turnings and results in major jam from all sides, all they have to do is shift the stops only a mere 10 to 15 meters to avoid such major jams. There are so many such stops and BMTC should think about all of its bus stops from traffic prospective and make changes. Here are some of those stops that I have made a note of and there are a lot more than these - Near Jayadeva hospital(just before climbing the flyover that leads to BTM layout), Near Rajajinagar 6th block(SJR college), etc..
One of the observation by me I would like to share, In most of the places, the BMTC bus stop will be just next to the traffic signal. This makes difficult for vehicles to move even after the green signal. I feel bus stop should be a bit far from the traffic signals.
Few points to consider besides the most obvious ones of improving road conditions and traffic enforcement: traffic lights should be visible and coordinated, Speed bumps should be properly designed, proper road signs- road names, one way etc, bus stops away from intersections, publicise and distribute bus routes (create awareness)
9.Please please please introduce under bridges for ppl to cross roads..!! Please. This task to be taken up on proirity as soon as possible.1st one to come up after KR puram bridge. 10.After road widening kindly plant trees which will grow at a faster rate and become huge and provide shade. 11.Please provide free drinking water at all possible bus stops and railway stations. 12.Can we try and use the existing railway lines for commuting within the city and trains can depart at fixed time not interrupting the long distance schedule trains. 13.Cab drivers to fined heavily(minimum 5000rs) for rash and negligent driving. 14.Please improve all government schools, government schools should be on par with any international school. 15.Government hospitals should be made super speciality (like manipal) and sholud be free for all poor people.
I'd like to suggest a route from Indiranagar to Electronic City.
It is very nice to see this initiative. I have few comments and suggestions listed as below, 1. Using BUS services for all purposes and all the times is not convenient to many. 2. Requesting to use only BUS services and suggesting to reduce/avoid using personal vehicles alone will not help to address the problem, instead stop registering any new vehicle within and around Bangalore atleast for 1 year to see the real impact of the proposed solutions. Is the Govt. ready to think in this line, which is unlikely. 3. Strengthening the traffic management itself will address the problem to a great extent (The best example here is, laying the road properly by removing the pot holes at PAI L/O near KR puram has eased the traffic to great extent towards ITPB). 4. Not having good roads at many junctions (NGEF - Indranagar, Koramangala-BDA junction, etc., and many more in the city) will delay the vehicle movement which in turn causes trafic jams at many places, is also one of the main reason. 5. Stopping private vehiles at many junctions causes delay of vehilces and also the traffic police allowing such stoppings for personal benifits by ignoring the public inconvenience, should be addressed immediately to tackle the situation. 6. Can the top govt officials and all top executives of the industry around Bangalore, travel by BUS first to experience the inconvenience and also to set the example as LEAD from the front, can set the trend of BUS service.
With the volume of pedestrian traffic in Bangalore, it is extremely important to provide "walkways" such as overbridges connecting various roads, and which avoid vehicle-pedestrian junctions. This would eliminate accidents involving pedestrians, decrease congestion and enhance vehicular movement efficiency too. Note that this is extremely successful in places such as Hong Kong.
Suggestions: [A] Ensure that bus gets parking on the road side at the bus stop and it does not remain at the centre of road while picking up the passengers. [B] BTS busses still do not necessary stops at the bus stop but 10 feet before or after as they wish. [C] Create a corpus which gets money by collecting penalty from all kind of drivers ( Car, Auto, Two Wheeler) and Jay-walker. One need to be ruthless in collecting money. Divert this collected fund in improvising bus stop. [D] Bring a ticketing system for vehicle owners who are driving car with no co-passenger. [E] Subsidize the volvo ticket (photo id) for vehicle owner.
Hi, We do not have any bus facility starting from Nelamangala via Jalahalli cross via BEL Circle till Silk Board. Request you to provide few buses so that there are people who travel also and we have to wait for an hour to get a bus from BEL nor from Hebbal. Regrads Rajeev
Not sure if somebody is going to read this, here are my views to reduce congestion after driving here for last 12 years. 1)Discipline in BMTC bus drivers to stop at designated bus stops and not to stop the bus in the middle of road to pick passengers. 2)Another funny thing with bangalore bus stop is, right after very junction or cross theres a immediate bus stop. In every mahor/minor crossing theres a bus stop inches from signal whoever designed the bus markings should be given a lifetime achievement award for planning. If they bring in a rule so that theres no bus stops with in 100meters from crossing, bangalore will be much better place. 3)Spacing between BMTC buses, most of the times we see chain of bmtc buses going in a road, often driving in both lanes, which effectively blocks all the traffic behind. Drivers needs to be educated on this aspect and they have maintain atleast 100 meters between every bus and at all times they have to drive on left side lane. 4)In the city outskirts we often seen mini buses with broken windows stopping right in middes of bus stops trying to board people, this has to stop and i have no idea who gave them permission to ply people which remotely looks like mini bus. 5)Traffic constables and inspectors should focus of controlling the traffic at peak hours, we often see the constables roaming around with a small notebook which doesnt look like fine bill book and trying to collect money for his and inspector family.
I have been using BMTC services from last couple of months. And found it really convinient. I travel to EC, everyday and the frequency of buses has increased tramendously. The ef fort put by government for this is really commendable. But i feel that , for people travelling from areas like JP Nagar, Banashankari, BTM and other places which do not get covered in the current route, still will face problem switching to public transport for everyday life. I suggest that the kind of frequency we have right now from maestic to sub urb areas should be extended from residentail areas to sub urbs, not just from city center.
what are the other options to connect to the international airport apart from bellary road, from the cite centre? Hennur road seems to be the closest from MG road..i remmber it being mentioned in one of the master plans as airport expressway. any development on this? Also the traffic currently piles up on the ORR Hennur road junction too much, it takes about 15 minutes to cross the signal on hennur road in the evenings. In the report it is suggested to make it signal free..does it mean having an underpass at the junction?
I think the best solution for the traffic problem would be a mass transport system. Look at other big cities Mumbai Delhi they have a good network of mass transport. Even though there is lot of rush one is assured that he will reach his distination in time. The existing railway can be used. For Eg The line passing through K R PURAM to chandapura (I am not much aware, but i think it is close to Electronic city) can be used by construction a new station near ELECTRONIC city and having buses running from station to EC. This way the traffic can be eased. People can take there vehicle to the nearest railway station, park the vehicles there use the train to commute. This will save a lot of fuel and reduce pollution
In your doc. - Road_Traffic_Management_Transportation.pdf, you have discussed the topic - Equip existing sub-urban areas to decongest the city, wherein creating of transport infrastructure for Whitefield (WFD) is mentioned. I commute daily to WFD by trains. There are trains (as below), that go through WFD, but don’t stop there. 2295/2296 - SANGHA MITRA EXPRESS 2607/2608 - LALBAGH EXPRESS 2639/2640 - BRINDAVAN EXPRESS 2683/2684 - ERNAKULAM SF EXPRESS 2509 - GUWAHATI EXPRESS 2292 - YESVANTPUR EXP 7314 - UBL CHENNAI EXP 2863/2864 - HWH YPR EXPRESS 0201 - YPR GUWAHATI EXP 2845 - BBS YPR SUP EXP Please add a stop/halt at WFD station for all trains which will help the commuters of all the establishments like 1. Schools & Colleges (MVJCE, CMRIT, Institute Of Bioinformatics & Apllied Biotechnology, Miranda Education Society, University Platform India, New Horizon College of Education, GEAR Foundation, Prosoft Learning, BET College, etc.) 2. IT companies (like TCS, companies at ITPL, iGATE, SAP, GE, HP, Sapient, IBM, Intel, Manhattan Associates, Perot Systems, Dell, Oracle, United Telecom, Genesys, etc.) 3. Hospitals (Sai Baba Hospital, Vaidehi Hospital, Ojust Healthcare Pvt Ltd., Vijay Hospital, Sri Ram Hospital, etc.) 4. Hotels (Mapple, Fortune, Ginger, Mark Boulevard, Palm Meadows, Malls at ITPL, etc.) Advantages with this arrangement - 1. It will help the commuters immensely, ease out the traffic jams on this route and also reduce pollution caused due to the excessive use of other modes of transportation like cars, bykes, etc. 2. There are no trains from WFD to Blr City between 6:51 PM (2609 – BLR EXP) to 10:27 PM (6521 - BWT SBC EXP) that accounts for a duration of 3 hrs 36 mins. The trains SANGHA MITRA EXP (2296) and LALBAGH EXP (2607) don’t stop at WFD and directly stop at KR Puram at 7:41 PM and 8:43 PM respectively. If these trains stop at WFD, it will help all the commuters who travel to Blr City between 6:51 PM and 10:27 PM.
The roads near KR circle are difficlu to be crossed in the mornings before 8 PM when Traffic police wont be there as people wont follow the signal and pedestrians cant corss the road. Please arrange some means to cross the road there. I would also request to make the KG road (Mysore Bank road) two way, as there is no much traffic now. It is difficult to commute from that as we have walk down to KR Circle (SJP college) to get Bus. And to come to avenue road, we have to walk from Maharani college (SJP college). And those roads are so lonely that it is dangerous especially for girls to walk from there. Please consider this on priority.
I am a resident of Gottigere in South Bangalore. For the last 5 years I am not seeing any development in Bannerghatta Road beyond Meenakshi temple leading to Bannerghatta National Park. Can this stretch be made a four lane highway? This will smoothen the traffic flow and make people disburse to South Bangalore outskirts and decongest the heart of the city.
1. Build concrete foot paths and cover the drains after cleaning the debris. Make it level or minimum ups and downs. 2. Build overhead crossing on busy roads 3. Remove the horns from the vehicles. Any one using horns shall be fined Rs1000/-. Let the road or pedestrians report the violator. 4. Draw lanes and install CCTV at important junctions. Fine the drivers who cross lanes or drive between the lanes. Educate for one month on TV and news papers and warn the violators will be fined. Also show the violators on TV. 5. Ban parking on the roads. Install CCTV cameras at important locations. Also invite public to report improper parking. 6. Install proper traffic signals. currently they are in pathetic conditions even in important crossings. Install CCTV cameras in important junctions. 7. Improve bus frequencies and adherence to timmings by drivers. Bus leaving and arriving timming to be monitored at the terminal stations. Bus drivers should punch for each trip. Improve frequency during lunch time. Currently there are no buses from 1pm to 3pm. 8. Improve the conditions of public dealing govt office with proper counters. Staff should punch clock for arrival and lunch and leaving. All public dealing should be through counters and not at the desk of staff. provide place for the public to sit and issue que tickets. Que numbers and counter number should be displayed. Monitor the time for attendance. Time of issue of ticket and time of calling the que number to be logged and also time taken to attend.
To reduce traffic congession following points are immediate possible solutions 1. Avoid heavy trucks movements from morning 7AM to 10AM and Evening 5PM to 10PM inside city areas 2. Dedicating BMTC bus routs in one side of the road(preferably left side)and instrct then not to overtake, also other light vehicles should not travel in left side & should not overtake from left side, if voilate roul fine them heavely 3. Restrict number of cross roads join to the main roads without signal 4. Avoid parking by the side of the road if the road is not wide enough 5. Fine them heavely those who overtakes from left side
MR CHIEF MINISTER ,FIRST OF ALL DO U HAVE TIME TO READ THESE ABOVE/BELOW SUGGESSTIONS,COMPLAINTS,REQUEST,OR ATLEAST TO KNOW ABOUT THIS THROUGH SOME ONE, NO TIME ALL WAYS BUSY,THEN Y THIS NATAKA. ALL THE POLITICIANS ARE FOOLING PUBLIC, WHEN EVER ELECTION NEARS THEY BEG LIKE ANY THING AND AFTER ELECTION WE HAVE TO BEG WITH POLITICIANS .I CAN SAY ONLY YOUNG GENERATION WITH CORPORATE MODEL POLITICS WILL HELP OUR COUNTRY TO BUILD UP, JUST IMAGINE YOUNG ENERGETIC PROFESSIONAL WITH CODED DRESS SITTING IN VIDHANSOUDHA CLEARING FILES WITH TARGET ON COMPLETING OR CLEARING THE FILES WILL CERTAINLY HELP PEOPLES AS WELL COUNTRY,ALL THE OLD POLITICIANS FROM AGE OF 50-81 YEARS SHULD GET OUT OF POLITICS AND GIVE WAY TO YOUNG GENRATIONS , WE ARE ALL FED UP WITH THESE OLD BUNCHES PLEASE PEOPLES WHO ARE READING SEND SUGGEESTION TO karnatakapeoplesassociationblr@rediffmail.com LETS TRY TO CHANGE OUR POLITICS .
EVERYONE IS COMPLAINING ABOUT ISSUES, I WOULD SUGGEST THAT WE GO FORWARD AND TRY TO SEE IF WE CAN SOLVE THE ISSUES BY JOINING HANDS WITH ABIDE. LET US KNOW WHAT WE CAN DO TOO. Three top points : a. Educating BMTC drivers to stop only at junctions, day-in and day-out traffic and our security staff spend atleast 4hrs / day in a 9hr shift asking drivers to move and stop only at the bus-stops. I think this time if the traffic police / security guards can utilize to manage traffic we wont have traffic jams atleast. b. Please DO NOT PERMIT any private carriers on the road, BMTC is loosing out money and also adding to traffic problems by providing permits to these CRAZY drivers who not only CAPTURE the common man crowd thus making BMTC buses go empty but also kill many people with rash driving. c. Have rewards and recognitions to all ur bus drivers who dont have a single penalty or limited penalty for the month /quarter. Another note is nobody is willing to take care of constructing bus-stops but point fingers at other govt agencies, someone must own the same and help public and also set the expectations right to the public interms of waiting time at bus-stops. As a General Secretary for the I.T Industry on ORR the above are my observations. Our Additional Commissioner - Traffic and Security is all help for organizations like ours, it is a superb experience to have known professional people like him and I think all of us must join hands for a better city. For me these maybe top 3, but I leave it to ABIDE to decide.
My suggestion for control the b’lore traffic is, make a four main highways (better make a express high way) like towards to hosur, towards to Mysore, towards to Hubli. These four main highways should be connecting to center of B’lore and each high way has four lanes on one side. There is some kind of place is there in b’lore we can’t demolish the present infrastructure, in this case create a fly over or sub ways. We must adopt the New York based traffic control system like centralized traffic control management of all traffic signals (Better to refer http://www.roadtraffic-technology.com/contractors/traffic_man/transdyn/) . Thanks and regards Shivayogi v p
Lane Discipline- 1.vehicles which are taking a right turn, park on the extreme left at the signal or vice versa. Though the signal for the left turn is given, vehicles cannot move as the vehicle turning right is obstructing. Solution-Cops instaed of fining the offender, should simply ask him to turn left as hw will have to travel the extra distance and waste time to come back to the same spot. 2. At the signal, vehicles start piling up on the lane meant for the vehicles coming from the other direction. This obstructs the coming vehicles and creates further jam.Solution -Start fining these vehicles or simply stop them for some time, send them back or ask them to take a turn he does not intend. with regard to problem mentioned at sl no-1-
There are quite a few open drains (aka nallahs or storm-water drains). One such drain connects Old Madras Road with Airport Road. There was a plan put up to cover the drains with a road (the drains are really wide - there could have been a 4-lane road built quite easily). Unfortunately the plan is still podium-ware. It would be great if such open drains (which are a major eyesore to the city) are put to use like roads, etc. If required, the roads could be double decker too - so that traffic can be one way on each deck and hence it can handle more traffic.
We are developing a fascination for signal free corridor through high spend infra projects. While doing so can we consider two aspects: (1) Try synchronized signals with restricted speeds - if not as a long term solution, as a medium term solution. Most of the traffic jams can be avoided and fuel conserved if vehicles travelled at 20-30 kmph in the city rather than zipping at 50 kmph and waiting at the signal adding to the pollution. (2) Consider pedestrian crossing as a priority. Imagine the stretch on Hosur road towards electronic city that has no signals. How many pedestrian crossings are there in the 10km stretch ? (After spending about 500cr on the elevated road).
Understand that many large infrastructure improvements are going on and initiated by the government. But two quick and easy to implement suggestions to ease traffic are : Bus bays: One of the major traffic congestion in the city is due to the lack of Bus bays. If Bus bays are introduced at the maximum possible bus stops at the earliest, there is sure to decrease traffic congestion at least by 40%. Moreover try not to introduce very long buses (as is now) which will require much large area for bus bays. Cycling Track: Introduce separate cycling tracks along side wherever feasible city and outer ring which will help reduce the no of people taking cars to work. This will also promote cycling, public health and healthy environment. This is successfully implemented in most developed nations to ease traffic.
