Bengaluru Region Governance Act - 2009 (Draft)

The Bengaluru Region Governance Act (BRGA) will transform the way Bangalore is administered. It will legally create a framework for RWAs and residents to involve in policy-making and ensures empowerment of communities and resident welfare associations to have a bigger say in the development in their wards. The residents of wards can participate in the Governance of their neighbourhoods - through ward committees - and ensure the development of their neighbourhoods in accordance with their aspirations and expectations.

For example, the residents will have a say in the kind of development they want in their wards – whether they want a mall or not? Whether they want a playground or park? How the garbage is cleared? How to maintain the park. In short, residents can participate in development of their localities, call the shots of how their neighbourhoods should develop and can veto any decision that can go against the interests of residents of the ward.

There is much more to this Bill which is before the Government for passing it in the Assembly. This Bill can do wonders to the way our beloved city Bengaluru is administered and an opportunity for the residents to have a say in development of their neighbourhoods.
